ST Joseph’s Primary School student Maryanne Carmody (pictured right) has scored a place for the prestigious Ken Dry Trophy in the school trophy cabinet for the second year in a row.
On Monday night Maryanne of Year Four competed against seven other students in Year Six from larger catholic schools within the Canberra Goulburn Diocese in the Australian Rostrum Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition held at Hawker College Theatre in Canberra.
Maryanne, a confident public speaker who has been competing since she was in Year two said her speech based on the topic ‘I would like to be a…’ which is believed to be about St Joseph’s Principal Mr Peter Hughes.
A total of 89 schools from Canberra and surrounding areas entered the competition, with Maryanne the daughter of local couple Patrick and Margaret Carmody being announced as the overall winner.
Along with winning the Ken Dry Trophy Maryanne was also presented with a $60 book voucher for her self and for the school.
