BOOROWA Central School students in Year 10 had a taste of what to expect when applying for a job and having a
formal interview with an employer
earlier this week.
For the last 12 years Rotary Club of Boorowa and Rotary Club of Canberra North have given their time to assist in preparing the students in Year 10 for when they enter the work force.
This year students selected from 16 job positions, with the positions applied for being a cabinet maker, hairdresser, health and fitness worker, chef, first year mechanic and youth centre worker.
The students researched the position they were interested in, which according to Boorowa Central School Careers Advisor Elizabeth Myburgh gives the students the opportunity to decide whether this is a career the students would like to pursue.
Just like the real world, the students dress as if it is a formal interview,
prepared a written application letter, and resume displaying it in a formal portfolio with their certificates and achievements included.
They are then interviewed by a panel of Rotarians, when the interview is
complete the panel have completed rating sheets assessing their application letter, resume, job folder, personal
presentation, starting the interview, eye contact, voice projection, answers to questions, ability to relate to job applied for, attitude, manners, listening ability and concluding the interview.
The students are called back before the panel and given feedback and advice on the whole process and their performance.
The students involved in the program are Matthew Poole, Nikita Shean, Polly Picker, Terri Bush, Hayley Mears, Danielle Carney, Anna Rufford-Sharpe, Cameron Johnston, Stacey Howard, Andrew Pye and Bill Collins.
The Rotarians are Gillian Smith, Sina Banks, Stephen Pescud and Karen Karen Mackney of Boorowa Club of Rotary and members from Canberra North are Dolores Schneider, Ron Fowler, Harold Mileham, Naithan Matthews and Heather McEvoy.
After the interviewing process the
students and Rotarians were treated to a barbeque lunch.
