Serenity Garden officially opened

27/03/2008 6:44:00 AM
A large gathering of invited guests attended the official opening of the Boorowa Hospital Serenity Garden last week. Hugh Darling, chairman of the organising committee, said that the guest list acknowledged the contributions of residents, businesses, families and donors.

“The Serenity Garden is a great addition to the town and we welcome residents of Boorowa who would like to come up and look at the gardens,” Hugh said.

In his speech, Hugh praised the efforts of the committee and the generous donors who bought the garden to life.

“This sort of thing doesn’t happen overnight,” he said, “the original concept was devised in 2001 and the organising committee – a hastily assembled group – worked to create the Serenity Garden for the use of all hospital residents and their families.”

The garden, which is located in a large, sunny courtyard, provides seating surrounded by garden beds. The limestone coloured and stencilled cement floor is bordered by white pebble channels and is shaded with freeform sails. A classic wall fountain provides a focal point. The garden is quiet, bright and will provide a beautiful retreat for hospital residents, their families and visitors.

Boorowa Mayor Cr Wendy Tuckerman performed the opening and ribbon cutting. Official guests included Heather Gray, CEO of GSAHS, David Jeffery, Manager, Southern Slopes Cluster GSAHS, Katrina Hodgkinson, Gloria Schultz, Fr Greg Beath and Dr Scott.

The spectacular catering on the day was undertaken by the Hospital Auxiliary members, who have also been instrumental in much of the fundraising efforts. Continued Page 3
