As a result of the recent Western area swimming trials held at Cowra on March 5, six swimmers from Boorowa Central School will represent the Western area at the NSW combined high schools swimming championships being held at Sydney’s Olympic Pool Homebush from Thursday 3 April to Saturday 5 April. The 14 years girls 4 x 50 freestyle relay team of Beth Johnson, Elisabeth Banks, Rebecca Luxford and Sarah Hughston won their event in a very close finish to emerge western area champions. In the individual events Gabriela Corcoran and Rudy Corcoran will represent Western Area after Gabriela placed third in the 15 years 100 breaststroke and Rudy placed second in the open 100m breaststroke and third in the open 200 freestyle.
These six swimmers were part of a squad of 17 secondary students who represented Boorowa Central School at Cowra, participating in the 2008 swimming trials aiming to represent Western area at CHS this week.
The Squad to Western Area this year included John Dunn, Alison Witchard, Elisabeth Banks, James Dunn, Natalie Philpott, Kurt Barton, Sarah Hughston, Gabriela Corcoran, Rudy Corcoran, Christopher Dwyer, Jason Hunter, Courtney Barton, Brooke Keefe, Rebecca Luxford, Beth Johnson, Eliza Chudleigh and Christopher Turner. All swam to their personal best on the day. Boorowa Central obviously had the greatest cheer squad by the support for all swimmers especially when it came to the relay events. All the students put in creditable performances with the main feature being a large number of personal best times being achieved.
Again it was a pleasure to take such a talented and enthusiastic group to represent Boorowa Central. Special thanks must go to Mrs Johnson for managing the team on the day and efficiently organising swimmers to make sure they get to their events, also Mrs Julie Poplin for all her efforts assisting Mrs Corcoran as referee for this carnival. Special thanks to all the wonderful parents who transported the swimmers to Cowra.
We wish our six representative swimmers al the best as they have earned the honour of swimming for their region at Homebush against many talented swimmers from around the state.
