Under 8s
The mighty Boorowa/Harden under 8s took on mortal enemy Young last Saturday and came away with a hard fought win. Although both teams scored five tries apiece the locals superior goal kicking handed them the win. Max Gay was once again the workhorse continually taking the ball up the middle and doing plenty of tackling. Jayden Cutting made plenty of breaks and crossed for a try, although he must learn to stay away from the sideline, a great try-saving tackle rounded out an impressive display. Brady Halls recovered from a bump on the nose to once again turn in another barnstorming display, scoring a try and making some strong tackles. The star of the day, however, was Tom Jenkins stepping up from under 7s to make his debut in the 8s. He scored a length of the field try with his first touch of the ball, and just to prove that it was no fluke backed it up with two more, banging over a goal just for good measure, now that’s Rugby League! The boys will be looking to continue this form again on Saturday.
Under 10s
The under 10s were at home this weekend playing two games against Harden and Young. The first game against a much larger Harden side was a one sided affair with Harden running away with the game 44 to 6 with Boorowa’s only try coming from Jack Stanley converted by Sam Beath, With a full side for this game the boys were expecting a closer result but this was not to be. They tried hard with good defence and some big runs from George Chudleigh who is regaining his great form from earlier in the season, but the Harden boys were too strong in the end.
The second game against Young was a closer event with the Boorowa boys beefing up in defence and a lot more talk in attack. Jack Stanley coming back from injury was again in the tries scoring two which were converted by Michael Croker and Sam Beath. Again as in the first game there were lapses in defence which allowed the Young side to score some easy tries but overall a good performance from the boys who are showing glimpses of their great form from last year. With good runs and organising Sam Beath and Alex Blomfield are setting the platform for Johno Davis, Michael Berry and Jacob Carmody. Some great breaks from Ben Jenkins and Jack Stanley were made possible from lead up work by Marshall Andrews Michael Croker and Ryan Hughston. Pure determination from Bradley Wales, Jock Corcoran, Tristain Mears and Mal Hurley give me great hope for the following games. The final score Boorowa 12 Young 34.
As usual even though we went down this week the boys never stopped trying to the final whistle which is a great credit to them.
